The problem

Green claims are cheap.
Checking them is not.

Put two Indian brands side by side. One has spent three years changing its suppliers, its packaging and what it pays people. The other changed its label. On a shelf or a listing page they can look identical — same vocabulary, same leaf green, same price band.

The problem is not that every claim is false. It is that a true claim and a false one look the same on the pack. The words doing the work — natural, clean, chemical-free, sustainable — carry no enforced common definition, and none of them tells you who made the thing or in which town.

The brand doing the real work has the mirror-image problem. You know your sourcing is better. You have no cheap way to show it. Formal ESG reporting is largely built for listed companies with compliance departments and disclosure budgets — not for a ten-person cold-press unit in a district town.

So if a buyer, an investor or a journalist asked you tomorrow to separate what you can prove from what you merely say, you would probably be building that list from scratch, under pressure, in public.

What we do about it

One rule, applied
in two directions.

Planetars runs on one rule: a claim should arrive with the thing that lets someone check it. Replace an adjective with something specific enough to be argued with.

Outward — to the product

We hand you the address, not our opinion.

500 products, 10 categories, 47 Indian brands, 24 towns across about 15 states. Every listing carries the brand, the origin town and state, the price and the unit — and links out to the brand’s own website. We are not asking you to trust our description of a brand. We are pointing you at the source.

Inward — to the organisation

Nineteen named questions instead of one soft word.

Where a listing tells you who and where, the assessment asks how: 19 criteria across four dimensions. Free, no account, about eight minutes. The score moves as you answer, and you finish with a score, a risk rating and recommendations tied to the answers you gave.

The part most sites would leave out

The two halves do not touch yet. No product in the catalogue carries an ESG score, and we have not scored any of the 47 brands — they are brands whose products we listed and linked to, nothing more. Being catalogued by us is not an endorsement, not a partnership and not a score. The 215 products marked Planetars Signature are our own shortlist, not a certificate. Joining the two halves properly is the work ahead. Claiming it is already done would fail the exact test we are asking brands to pass.

The method, in the open

How the score is built —
and what it is not.

Opacity is what makes ESG worthless. So here is the whole framework: the four dimensions, how many criteria sit in each, what the questions actually sound like, and how an answer turns into a number.

Environmental5 criteria
  • Does your organisation measure its carbon footprint and actively set reduction targets?
  • Do you assess and manage the environmental impact of your full supply chain?
  • Do you have formal water reduction, waste management and circular economy programmes?
Social5 criteria
  • Do all employees and contractors receive at minimum a verified living wage?
  • Do you enforce human rights and labour rights policies across your supply chain?
  • Do you have a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policy with measurable targets?
Governance5 criteria
  • Is ESG formally owned at board or C-suite level with dedicated KPIs?
  • Do you publish a formal ESG report aligned to BRSR, GRI or SASB?
  • Is your ESG data independently verified by a credible third party?
Brand4 criteria
  • Are all ESG and sustainability claims in your marketing fully substantiated with evidence?
  • Do you communicate verified carbon and impact metrics in campaigns, not just initiative names?
  • Is your ESG commitment authentically integrated into your brand strategy?

Brand is not part of standard ESG. We add it because a claim made in public is itself a governance question.

Criteria counts above are for a business. The split across the four dimensions shifts slightly for an individual, family, community or product — it always totals 19.

Every criterion scores 0–3

  1. 0Not in placeNo action taken yet
  2. 1Initial stepsAwareness only, no formal programme
  3. 2In placeFormal programme exists, not yet measured
  4. 3Fully embeddedMeasured, verified and publicly reported

  • High Risk31–50
  • Developing51–70
  • Strong71–85
  • Exemplary86–100

The limit, stated plainly

This is a self-assessment. You are scoring yourself, and a score built on your own answers is worth exactly what your honesty is worth. It tells you where you stand by your own account. That is genuinely useful, and it is not proof.

Which is why the second tier exists. ₹15,000 for one brand, ₹36,000 for three: a person reads your evidence against the same 19 criteria — the identical framework, not a longer secret one — and returns a written report in five business days. Same questions, higher burden of proof. One you fill in; one somebody checks.

Who it is for

Two doors.
Same rule behind both.

If you are buying

See where it comes from before you buy.

500 products across 10 categories — oils, personal care, spices, teas, honey, sweeteners, fermented foods, superfoods, grains and home — from 47 Indian brands in 24 towns, Meghalaya and Assam through to Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Every listing names the brand, the town and state, the price and the unit, and links to the brand’s own site — so the last step of checking is yours, not ours.

Two plain things: ordering runs over WhatsApp today, not one-tap checkout. And the free assessment is open to you too — you can run it as an individual, a family or a community, not only as a business.

Ask the Concierge

If you are building a brand

Find out what you can actually evidence.

Start with the free assessment: 19 criteria, four dimensions, about eight minutes, no account. It asks for a few details about your organisation first, then gives you a score, a risk rating and recommendations tied to your answers.

Want it checked rather than self-reported? ₹15,000 for one brand, ₹36,000 for three — a person reads your evidence against the same 19 criteria and writes it up within five business days.

Selling through Planetars is a separate conversation: marketplace listing runs at 13% or 26% commission, with no listing fees and no minimum order quantity. Growth consulting is available too. Nothing requires you to take all three.

How we source

We go to the source.
Every single time.

We do not work with aggregators or middlemen. Every product is sourced through a direct relationship with the farm, cooperative or maker. This is the only way to guarantee what we promise.

01
We find the farm
We identify farms and cooperatives across India practising genuinely sustainable, chemical-free agriculture — often families farming the same land for generations.
02
We verify in person
No online checks. No third-party certification tick-boxes. Our team visits and assesses before a single product is listed.
03
We bring it to you unaltered
Minimal processing. Eco packaging. Straight to you — with full traceability of exactly where it came from.
04
We tell you when something is still in progress
Wherever formal certification, compliance or verification is not yet complete — or is actively underway — we say so, clearly and upfront. No product on Planetars hides behind vague claims. If it is not fully there yet, we will tell you exactly where it stands and why we still believe in it.
Proudly sourced from across India
Kerala coconuts. Himachal honey. Erode turmeric. Kashmir saffron. Telangana millets. Uttarakhand barnyard. India has always had the world's finest pro-planet produce — it just needed someone to bring it to you without the greenwash.
